Near the end of May we got a call from Shawn's mom that Grant had been to the doctor after not feeling well, and they discovered cancer all over his body. He was given about two months to live. With the kids activities and Shawn's work, we didn't have a weekend to get up to see Grant before he passed away, June 25th 2016. Shawn was able to call him and have one last conversation with him and told him that he loved him. This picture was taken in November 2015 on our way through Boise to Rexburg. We had a great conversation with Grant that morning and he had set the kids laughing with stories of growing up with 10 siblings in Shelley, and kept them awe inspired with stories of WWII. We met as a family this past weekend to celebrate and remember Grant and the wonderful full life he lived. He had such a great impact on all of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His sense of humor was what I loved the most about him - and will miss his amazing life stories. Shawn said that Grant taught so many things - he taught him how to fly fish, how to play the card game golf and shuffle cards, he taught him that most things can be done by very few men and no women at all…and to date fat girls because they will give you shade in the summer and keep you warm in the winter. He gave wonderful hugs and had a broad range of knowledge and interests that allows made for good conversation. We will miss Grant but are grateful for the memories and times we had with him! He would have been 96 years old today!
