Sam's Saturday Soup

Sam doesn't fail to shine here are some moments this week:
1. Bob the Builder - we got Sam this great tool set at Lowe's and he loved it! He really thinks he can go around and fix things, bangs on all of the walls, and tries to saw through anything, Can We Fix It, Yes We Can!

2. "Illmore" - AKA: Oatmeal. Sam loves oatmeal Maple and Brown Sugar or Cinnamon Roll, and almost every morning he'll wake me up saying, "Mommy will you make me some illmore?" Where do kids get their names for things? Sam used to call his blanket his "wingnut?" Do your kids have funny names for their things??

3. Bowl-A-Rama: We went bowling on Friday with the Tolboe's, and I loved the little shoes they have for the kids. Sam loved it, especially using the bowling ramp as a slide! I found out that I should have put bumpers up for me too, and used the ramp -scores are as follows, Sam: 90, Meg: 77, Shawn: 139! Ouch!

Here's Some Dirt . . .

I saw this on my friend Kellie's blog and thought it was fun, and am extending the invitation to anyone who reads this to consider themselves tagged - I want to know quirky things about you . . .

Things on my "to do" list:
1.Spring clean my house – nothing better than cleaning a really nasty cupboard
2.Find a new fun indoor adventure for Sam and I
3.Go grocery shopping

Things I would do if I became a billionaire: (There were a lot)
1. Pay off Shawn’s loans
2.Take a trip to Europe
3.Pay for my dad to build me a “custome house”
4.Go back to school – I miss it!!
5.Take my parents and Shawn’s parents on a great trip where we actually buy everything.
6.Buy my pimping Pearl Cadillac Escalade with spinning rims!!!!

3 of my bad habits:
1.Not calling and chatting with my family often enough
2.Putting off visiting teaching until the end of the month
3.Buy compulsively for Sam – he really gets anything he wants!!

4 places I've lived:
1. St. Anthony, Idaho
2. Provo, Utah
3. St. Anthony, Idaho
4. Waukee, Iowa

5 jobs that I've had:
1.Pulling vines on a digger during potato harvest
2.Receptionist/Assistant for Internal Medicine Doctor
3.BYU Creamery on 9th – Ice Cream Scooper/Grill
4.BYU Law School Career Services Secretary/ Law Society Database Coordinator
5.Social Studies Teacher at ALLC, Summer School Teacher, Substitute Teacher

Things most people don't know about me
I shave my legs (maybe) once a week – poor Shawn. I love eating dill pickles out of the jar. I’m really into Family History, well pretty much anything “History” related. I tend to watch myself talk if I can see myself in a mirror – I’m so vain! My family loves lamb – we are some of the few people who still eat it, or who have raised bum lambs only to turn them into lamb chops the next year.

Introducing . . . Sam's Saturday Soup

I've decided to try (and I mean try - it most likely will not be weekly) to do a weekly blog spot on Saturday all about the wonderful world of Sam. He just really cracks me up lately, so here is the debut. Enjoy!

1st - Sam is way into his clothes (so wierd, but whatever). He feels the need to pick out his daily clothes and pjs and he's started to dress himself. Well last night this was his pj choice -

Gotta love those tight spandex-like bottoms! He gets his fashion sense from his dad.

2nd - He is really starting to be a big boy. This morning he dressed himself all by himself, no help at all. Then I told him we needed to brush his teeth and do his hair. So he ran up stairs, started the faucet and with the toothbrush in one hand, and his comb in the other, he started to brush his teeth and wet his own hair. It was great! I'm so proud.

3rd - He made the greatest comment today: I told Shawn that Sam is starting to be such a big boy, and is now fitting into 3T clothes, and Shawn said "Where have I been?" Sam answered, "Probably at school!" It was perfect! I love how much he is starting to put together.

Do any of you have kids who are particular about their clothes??

Indiana Jones

So I can't describe how excited I am about the new Indiana Jones movie being released on May 22, 2008!!! I am a huge fan, and have been since I was a child. Not only is Harrison Ford a very good looking old man - but man, when he's Indiana Jones with the hat and the whip, well . . . need I say more. This movie inspired me to want to be an archeologist, and I went to BYU with that thought still lingering in my head (then I took 1 archeology class, died of boredom and buried that dream - come on where was all the action and stumbling upon the ark of the covenant??) Anyways, I have to say that I'm excited and want to know which Indiana Jones movie is your favorite?

A: Raiders of the Lost Ark
B: The Temple of Doom
C: The Last Crusade

You Think We've Got It Bad!!

I had to put this up because I've been complaining nonstop about the never ending winter we've been having here. These are pictures taken (Feb.11) in Rexburg, Idaho right by where Shawn lived. The snow has gotten so bad that the county where my parents live has been declared a federal emergency because they cannot afford to pay for the constant snow removal.

I also had to show everyone the cute snowman that Shawn and Sam made on Saturday. We got the cutest snowman kit for Christmas and finally used it. Our snow is nothing to complain about - so I'm determined to suck it up and look on the brighter side!

My Valentine

So I saw this on Katie's blog and thought what better way to share Valentine's Day than by telling you about my valentine:

What is his name? Shawn Kelly Summers

How long have we been together? 5 Years! We started dating in May of 2002 and got married December 21, 2002.

How old is he? 27, but acts like his 16

Who eats more? Shawn, he really can put away quite a bit of food. In fact my family nicknamed him the disposal because he would finish all of the food the dozen of us couldn't manage to stuff in our bellies!

Who said I love you first? This is a toss up - he told me that "he thought he loved me," on like our 4th date (which by the way scared me to death, and he denies saysing this). Otherwise I told him around the end of July after fourwheeling with the Gentas and Holdaways.

Who is taller? Shawn, but I'm not too tough to beat.

What is his favorite sport? Football and Golf. He would love to relive those high school football years, and our biggest fight is over his "need" to golf!

Who is smarter? Me!! Hahah - I have to say that because my family prides ourselves on our superior intelligence! No Shawn is very, very smart and tends to beat me at trivial pursuit more than I like to admit.

Who does the laundry? Me!!!! In fact I had to show Shawn how to run the washer when I left him alone for the first time!

Who does the dishes? We both do - but I prefer to do them so I can get a little break from entertaining Sammy. Shawn never seems to put up too much of fight over that.

Who pays the bills? Me, unfortunately! This is the one responsibility I cannot wait to hand over to Shawn, so that I can say "This is how much I spent today on things we didn't need, now make our budget work!"

Who cooks dinner? I do, this is probably my greatest joy besides being a mother, is feeding Shawn. There is no greater satisfaction than to cook him something he really likes, because he'll go on, and on, and on.

Who drives when you are together? We do paper, rock, scissors for this. I really like to drive, but Shawn hates it that I always want to, so its about 75% Shawn, 25% me.

Who is more stubborn? Definetly me!!!! It is because I'm always right, and if Shawn would just figure that out, things would go a lot more smoothly. J/K - Shawn is too kind to be stubborn, but I do think that I'm teaching him how its done.

Who kissed who first? Shawn kissed me after our second date - he couldn't help himself. One night watching me mini-golf, and he was smitten.

Who proposed? Shawn - he had me drive, and a police officer pick me up for speeding and give me a ticket. I started to freak out because I've never recieved a ticket before - and the police officer told Shawn to check a tail light that was out. The officer brought back the ticket, told me to read over it, and sign at the bottom. Shawn had written "Will you Marry Me" on the ticket. I read it and started laughing, and turned and Shawn was on his knee in the dirty road with the ring and roses. I said yes, only after I recovered from realizing that I wasn't getting a ticket. It was the perfect way to ask me.

Who has more siblings? Me - I have six and Shawn has three.

Who wears the pants in the family? Probably me, but Shawn has squeezed his leg into at least one leg.

Shawn is the best - and if you know him, you'll agree! He is the greatest decision I ever made and I'm so glad that I fooled him into loving me. I love you Shawney Boy!

Someone Unplugged My Piano

I'm excited to write this one, because it I promised Shawn that his words would grace the blog. Last night Shawn and I were watching the Grammy's and they had a trio of John Foggerty (who I love), Jerry Lee Lewis (who sings Great Balls of Fire) and Little Richard (still really scary looking)anywho - Jerry Lee Lewis is really getting old, and not able to rock out quite as much as the other two. They showed a shot of him and Shawn made the comment, "Someone probably unplugged his piano." I started laughing so hard, asking Shawn how exactly you go about unplugging a piano? If any of you have any suggestions about unplugging a piano, please let Shawn know. It probably doesn't seem that funny now, but last night at 10:30, it had me giggling like a 12 year old.

My Sweet Sam

Sam has been such a funny little person lately, so I had to give you a picture update of some of the things that he's been doing. He loves chocolate and is always asking for a treat, so I gave in and got him a Twix candy bar. He had to hold it with both hands, and we know that chocolate melts in your mouth and your hands. By the time it was gone he was covered in chocolate.

I also finally broke down and cut Sam's hair. Shawn insisted that he'd been called a girl one too many times. So I took him to our friend Jen's house and she did a great job. However Sam was not a fan of the haircutting and here's a picture of him right after we finished. I also included one later in the day when he was a little happier!

Finally I'm including a video of Sam singing our karoake game. His favorite song is "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister. He's kinda hard to hear, but he knows almost all of the words.
