#2 scores 2

Sporting a #2 jersey (Uncle Ryan's Number) - Jack's first soccer game was a complete and total success.  I had to miss his game because Sam had a game at the exact same time (Sam had an awesome day too - scoring 3 goals!)  I have to admit that I was a little nervous about how soccer would go for Jack.  He doesn't have much endurance, and absolutely no coordination, but the odds were with him today.  Don't get me wrong he fell, several times - but this is to be expected but he also scored 2 goals!!!  What a great job.  Shawn said he was really aggressive and I'm so excited that he was able to feel the joy of success.  The following sequence of pictures is of him scoring his 2nd goal.  PURE JOY - in captured in a picture, there is just no other words to describe it!  Days like these are so rewarding, and I wouldn't trade a life time of worldly riches and success for these precious moments.

A couple of "game face" shots:

 Shooting his 1st goal!
Now you might ask, how was this done?  Well he had a little help from his own private instructor: Sam K. Summers.  Sam had Jack outside Thursday showing him the basics.

Shawn's Shiner and Lyv's not so New - New Bedset

Unfortunately this picture doesn't do it justice - but this is what you get when you mess with Jack.  Or rather Jack's head.  They were wrestling and Jack headbutted Shawn on accident and gave him a nasty black eye.  His head is like a bowling ball in size, shape, and apparently weight too.
Last weekend's project was refinishing Lyv's bed set.  I inherited this set from my sweet Grandma Belva, and I've loved the wood work on each piece.  We went to work and antiqued it.  This was our first time trying anything like this, and I'm happy with the way it turned out - though it was a little more gray that I shooting for, and in the pictures that is really accentuated.  We also have a vanity with a rounded mirror that completes the set - but since we have no room for that in our house right now, we'll have to wait to finish that up. My sister in law also gave us really cute butterfly decorations and a canopy that will be going up soon, if we can find a stud to attached it too:) Lyv walked in and said, "It's beautiful!"  I'm glad she liked it.

My favorite shot of the week.  I always get asked if these two are twins.  No but in a lot of ways yes.  Lyv would follow Jack into hot lava and Jack would be bored out of his mind without his sweet - rough and tough sister to play with.  I hope they will always be close.

Strike Force - Sam

Soccer season started up and I'm happy to say that I'm more excited about this year than I have been about any other.  Sam's coach is great - and Sam's finally learning what to do instead of the usual run around and chase the ball everywhere - which is what we're used to.  Sam made a great assist last week and played offense for the entire game.  He is still a little bit timid, and I wish the aggression (that I know is in him - He's half Hill for cryin' out loud) would come out on the soccer field instead of with his brother and sister!

10 for 10 - Max

Max is ten months, and I am sad that he growing so fast.  He continues to be such a joy in our home, and we are so grateful such a wonderfully happy boy.
Here are 10 things about Max right now:

1) the picture shows a very typical pose.  He does this raised arm thing when he sees Shawn or I, or himself in the mirror.  I can't decide if it's like a Breakfast Club fist pump or a Nazi salute...but either way he uses it for those he loves the most.
 2) He's taken a step back in eating - he won't eat hardly any fruit, and spits out food when he doesn't like it or is done eating.  He'll put it in his mouth and then push it out on his tongue like its disgusting.  I'm not really liking his picky eating - it just makes it hard to find good food for him.
3) On the food note - he LOVES dessert (weird?  I know!) He gets really anxious and does his wrist-ankle twist and grunt until he gets another spoonful.
3) He is a little too much like Jack - he has very predictable patterns in his onslaught of messes.  His favorite things to unload - the dishes in Lyv's kitchen, the DVD's, the basket of toys and then the Skylanders, he turns the cable modem on it's side after that, and then goes into the bathroom and tries to light up the scale....everyday at least 3-4 times.
 4) He loves to cuddle...oh the sweetness of his hugs.  We have never had a baby cuddles, so needless to say, we soak it up every chance we get.
5) Like Jack he gets a lot of pleasure out of our pain!  If we say ow...he repeats what ever he just did and laughs in this impish way!
6) He has eight teeth and a constant runny nose - poor guy I think he might have seasonal allergies.  He hates having his nose wiped and I hate seeing snot dripping down his face so it is battle each time.
7) He has discovered the joy of the toilet (another Jackism) and we are now on constant door patrol to make sure he's not getting in.
8) He is such a good boy and only fusses when he's hungry or tired.  We are so grateful for this.  He is very content to play and hang out - which is what he does a lot of as we try to get all the other kids to and from their different activities.
9) He loves eating rocks and dirt, and I think he knows that its naughty because he looks at me as soon as he puts something like that in his mouth and waits for me to respond.
10) His eyes are still so blue they look like the ocean, and I love his sweet little scrunched up nose smile.  He makes a lot of noise still and my favorite is when you do something that he thinks is funny but not too funny he gives you a courtesy grunt like: huh-huh!

Little Master Chef

Max loves to whip things up in the kitchen and I couldn't help take a shot of him hard at work.  I can't wait to taste what he's dishing up.  Love the look on the last picture: "What?  Don't you see babies cooking all the time?"

Cheering the Cougars of BYU....

Jack had a super special birthday this year - he celebrated his shared birthday with his cousin Brittney AND... he got his Game Face on baby!  That's right we hit up the BYU v. Texas game and had a great time seeing family.

Jack requested a soda and candy cake.  It was the fastest, easiest cake to make and clean up:)  I Loved it, and so did Jack.

Saturday we met up with Shawn's parents, and after Shawn ate himself sick at his favorite Tucanos, went to campus to get some BYU paraphernalia.  I loved being able to walk around the campus again.  I had such a great experience there and loved everything about college that it made me want to do cartwheels down the sidewalks.  I restrained myself - but only because it started raining cats and dogs.  We lucked out being in the WILK during the major part of the downpour so we didn't get soaked.  The kids had no problem with the weather, jumping into every puddle they could find.  After an 1 1/2 hour rain delay the kids had lost their enthusiasm for football, so I took them home early. But the game was awesome and we look forward to hitting up at least 1 game a year from here on out.

No rain can dampen this little lady's parade - she was literally singin' in the rain!
I posted these pics on Facebook because it was so funny to Shawn and I!  My brother in law, Dave, got this Kyle Van Noy helmet last season, and it still had the nasty sweat stains and chips from killa hits and tackles.  So we couldn't resist putting it on and feeling the power.  The helmet fit Shawn good, but it kept slipping off my head and covering my eyes.  Shawn said he loves this picture not only because I'm dead sexy wearing a BYU football helmet, but because it reminded him of how I looked when we were dating - or in other words when I was fun!

Jack's 1st Day of Preschool (Take #2)

Jack started preschool last week - Wednesday Sept. 4th.  He is attending Wesley Preschool 3 days a week, and is excited for another year of lots of snacks, lots of friends, and lots of playing on toys that aren't his.  We have been blessed to have friends that are in our neighborhood and church that the kids see regularly that are also in school.  Jack's buddy Tate is going to preschool with him, and we'll be carpooling (YAY!)
He looked so "old" this year.  I have to note what an AMAZING reader he is.  Seriously this boy is bounds above and beyond what Sam was doing at his age.  He fell in love with sight words last year, and that is what has skyrocketed his reading.  He is reading daily and I'm always so impressed with his love for it and his desire to try to get the words on his own.  We are really excited to see how he continues to progress especially in his fine motor and speech skills - which were the biggest areas of concern last year.

Jack was able to bring snack the first day because it was close to his birthday.  He brought smore's trail mix and grapes.  It was a big success!  I had to laugh because when everyone sang Jack the birthday song he completely zoned out, and instead of the typical smile and happy face that a child would have, Jack was totally unresponsive.  So much for that!)

Random Delights

This has been the sight we see most often - not the TV, but neighborhood kids at the house.  One way or another, we get an extra child or two throughout the day.  Our kids love having friends all around, and we are loving getting to know their best buddies.  I just need to be better about having my pantry stocked with snacks...they are always hungry!)

Max went from not crawling, not putting anything in his mouth - to crawling EVERY where and shoving anything in his mouth??  I tried to keep him out of the little garden and wood chip landscaping for an hour, and finally gave up.  What doesn't kill him will only make him stronger? At least that is what Kelly Clarkson says.

Final shot...Jack got a birthday treat at Primary on Sunday.  He was so thrilled to get his very own chocolate bar.  When we pulled up to the house (which is only 5 minutes from church) the only evidence of a treat was on his face.
